Our Objectives
The Care & Pride Project is on a mission to transform the foster care system for LGBTQ+ children and youth across Canada, and we're thrilled to be making progress towards our objectives. We believe that by implementing strategic actions, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for these vulnerable children.
We're in the early phases of building quality and standardized training for every caregiver and staff member connected to Children's Aid on LGBTQ+ history, culture, and specific needs for children and youth. This is a critical step in ensuring that caregivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to provide safe and affirming environments for these children.
But that's not all - we're also building an action plan to ensure scalable and cost-effective ways to secure an Out & Proud Committee or Officer in every Children's Aid office.
Additionally, we're developing a nationalized system of therapists and doctors who will provide government-paid support to these vulnerable children. This means that LGBTQ+ children and youth in the foster care system will have access to the care and support they need to thrive.
To support these efforts, we're also establishing a national internship network that will engage Canadian universities in supporting our ongoing research, resources, and reports to help us better understand the needs of LGBTQ foster children. We believe that by investing in research and resources, we can develop effective strategies and interventions to support these children and youth.
And we're not stopping there - we're planning our social media launch to build support for our work, sharing resources and information about LGBTQ+ kids in care through a range of mediums, including social networks such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. We believe that by harnessing the power of social media, we can raise awareness about the challenges faced by these children and advocate for their needs.
We're also preparing to publish annual reports and recommendations and host an online conference to share knowledge and insights with a wider audience. We believe that by sharing our findings and recommendations, we can create a more informed and engaged community of stakeholders who are invested in supporting LGBTQ+ children and youth in the foster care system.
Finally, we're actively lobbying MPs and other government officials to raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ children and youth in the foster care system and to advocate for their needs. We believe that by working together with policymakers and other stakeholders, we can effect real change and create a more equitable and supportive system for all children in care.
We're thrilled to be making progress towards our goals, and we're excited about the transformative impact we can have on the lives of LGBTQ+ children and youth in the foster care system.
